Easter Sunday
Dearest Ann & Ron, Jean & Rick, Bob and Roy,
It's really cold Easter Sunday - it reminds Daddy and I of the Eastern we had in Phoenix when we all went to the Elk's Park Easter Egg Hunt and it was so cold we didn't stay very long. We had a couple beautiful and warm days last week and we thought Springs was here to stay but it turned cold yesterday and it's about 34( today. We had a lovely service in Sunday School - Frances James directed the choir and they sang three really beautiful songs - she's a great asset to our ward. It was so nice to have daddy with us - the first time we have all been together for Sunday School for a long time. We fixed Johnny a little Easter surprise - he says he's too big for Easter baskets - we gave him a couple plastic kites, some "Gee, your hair smells terrific" shampoo and a little birds whistle and some money - he liked the money best of all - his allowance just doesn't quite stretch till the end of the month. He said he felt bad that he didn't send you all a card - Easter sorta' crept up on him - anyway, we said we sent you on for him - he is so thoughtful!!!!!
Last Sunday after Sunday School Johnny and I hurried home and packed a little picnic lunch and hike Pinnacle and I want you to know I got clear to the top. It was one of the nicest day I have ever spent with Johnny - we ate our lunch on the very top and it was just beautiful - I was scared to death climbing on those rocks but he kept saying "Mom, you can do it" and I couldn't let him down. We just barely made it home in time for Sacrament meeting.
Thursday afternoon, Johnny and his friend Brad Barney and Daddy and I packed up the trailer and the mini bikes - your trail bike Roy and also the small one you fixed last Summer - and went to Petit Jean Mountain to spend the night. We really had a wonderful time - it rained really hard Thursday night but we were snug and warm in the trailer - Johnny and Brad had a "ball" on the mini bikes until a Park Ranger caught them and told them it was illegal for them to ride them in the park without a license and they had to be fourteen in order to get a license (we didn't know they were required in the Park). After that, we left and went to Maumelle and they rode them on the back roads - they had so much fun and we wished you could have seen them Roy - you would have realized that your efforts of last Summer were worthwhile - we hope they didn't hurt the mini bikes. Johnny planned the menus and Thursday night we had macaroni and cheese and pork chops - we cooked ten pork chops and Daddy had two and I had one and Johnny and Brad ate the rest - they loved them. When it started to rain we cooked popcorn and stayed in the trailer and ate it - Johnny and Brad played card games. We got home Friday afternoon in time to get ready for the Scout Banquet - it was really nice and Johnny received some awards - we think he's going to like scouting.
Yesterday, Saturday, we had leadership meetings all day. I saw Steve Beyers and he said to tell Bob that he and Ailleen would be in Utah around July 5th and they'll look you up - he was hoping they would be there in time for the wedding but they won't be. Their little girl is really growing - she's just darling. I also saw Shawna and Rex -they're doing fine. They are about the only ones you kids still know. Oh yes - Becky Ewing is going on a Mission to Canada in April - did I already sell you that?
Winky and Daisy still haven't had their puppies - we thought Winky's would come on Friday so we took her with us on the camping trip - she is just huge - looks like she will have a dozen - we don't like to leave her for very long alone so I think I'm going to be homebound this next week. Johnny is having his Spring break so he will be here to help - Daddy has to go to Houston and we had hoped to drive down with him but it doesn't look like we'll be able to. The Woods have gone to Florida and a lot of people are going out of town and we have to "Puppy Sit"!!!!
Daddy and I just came back from visiting with Ellen and Chester Green - Daddy is their home teacher. Cissy and Leslie was out working in the garden - they said they plan to plant a lot of vegetables - Cissy was coloring Easter eggs. Marvin will be home from his Mission the last of August - Ellen said he will go back to work at that transmission place.
Bob - we loved your letter - we think your podiatry school sounds great and we hope it isn't too late to get in. They said they'd call me when your pictures were ready - hopefully they'll be ready for Daddy to take out with him. Why don't you call the phone company and arrange a day when you could be at Aunt Marvels so they could connect the phone - I'm not sure I made it clear to Dolores that I wanted it connected.
Jeanie and Rick - it was so fun to talk to you - we are really thrilled about your plans to buy a home - it sounds exactly perfect for you and we can hardly wait to see it. We think you're really smart to buy in an established area - it will be so much fun for you to have a home. Jeanie - will you check that roll recipe and tell me when you're supposed to add the salt and also is the 1/2 cup water used to dissolve the yeast part of the 1 cup water in the recipe - I made them this morning but we haven't baked them yet.
Annie and Ron - I was worried about you yesterday so I tried to call about 5:30 our time and I tried for about an hour - after that I became "unworried" and decided that the fact that you weren't home was an indication that your were okay - I hope so anyway. Dianne said she would write to you - she was so pleased to get that script - we had a copy made for us.
Roy - why didn't you tell us that Ted Snider had been to visit with you? Chris asked me how you liked his visit and I didn't even know about it. She said he was definitely going to Vanderbilt next year and would study Bio-medical Science. Are you already for your trip? I surely hope you got your scuba gear.
---------------
David came over so I went upstairs to visit with him - he had just been to Anna Nicholson's for dinner and came through our yard on his way home so he decided to come in for a little while - he is surely a fine young man. He and Anna have invited Johnny over tonight to watch the "Wizard of oz" with them. He has had a little Spring break and will start school again tomorrow.
We just came home from Sacrament Meeting - the choir sang again - one of their numbers featured Eric Enoepple singing a solo with Bruce Pearce playing the accompaniment on the violin - it was beautiful. Otto Bohn was the High Council visitor and he gave a good talk.
We went to see Aunt Marvel this afternoon and she's just fine - last week she told me that Lehi was swallowed up in an earthquake - today she told us that Lehi was the only city in Utah that wasn't flooded - she has a lot of time to think and get things mixed up.
We had a sweet card and letter from Carol for Easter along with a beautiful picture of the Manti Temple with a double rainbow in the background. One thing we must be sure to do is to invite their children individually to your wedding reception Bob and Claire - I wish you would write to her for their addresses - at least the ones that live in Utah.
Daddy had gone home teaching. He leaves this coming Friday, March 31st for Utah - he will be taking the same flight I took Bob and he would like you to meet him - it gets in there about 3:30. He has to go to a dinner meeting Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 - he tried to get out of it but Bro. Ballard wants to meet with him then. He suggested to me that if Claire comes with you that you two could go eat while he is at this meeting. There's a possibility that Bishop Gonce will be with him and will want to stay with him in Lehi. He thinks now that he will stay and leave for Little Rock on Monday morning if he can get his schedule changed. We surely do love each one of you and hope things are going great for you!!!!!
