Sunday - February 19, 1978

Dearest Ann & Ron, Jean & Rick, Bob and Roy,

This is the most beautiful Sunday we have had for a long time - the ground is covered with snow and the sun is out and it's so bright and pretty. It started to snow Friday about noon and the temperatures got quite low so they cancelled school at 1 o'clock - I went to get Johnny and the other boys - when Johnny got home he told me he was invited to a dancing party that night up on Nob View and he wanted a friend to spend the night - at that point we didn't know how had the store was going to be so I told him I'd go get his friend - Well - he lived in Walton Heights!!!! It was about 2:30 and I wanted to stay home and watch Pres. Carter's News Report from Rhode Island because I thought it might show some of the country up there -n-thing would do but I go get this friend - so reluctantly we started out - it was absolutely terrible - Cantrell was getting icy and a lot of cars were off the road but we kept going - when we got to Walton Heights it was really had but we kept on - finally after looking for this boy's home for about fifteen minutes we decided to go back home - we just barely made it and I told Johnny I wouldn't go out for anything and he didn't coax. It really snowed the rest of the afternoon and until about midnight - they cancelled his party and everything else and Johnny just enjoyed being home and watching it snow. Saturday (yesterday) he was up about 7 a.m. and he didn't stop playing until last night at 6 when he had to come in to get ready for cotillion. It was really fun snow - not wet and not good sledding but just fun to play in. Today the roads are all clear but the snow is still on the ground. I watched a re-broadcast of Pres. Carter's news report and they didn't show anything of Rhode Island - I was disappointed.

Bob - I really loved your letter - it just made my whole week - yours and Claires - I'll write her a personal one really soon, I a.m. so grateful to you for going to spend some time with Grandmother and Grandpa - they really love for your kids to visit with them. Your evening with Jeannie & Rick sounded just wonderful too - Jeannie's a good cook. Your dinner with some of Claire's friends sounded so fun- do you remember how Aino Mayers used to make you kids take off your shoes before going into their home - she said it was because of Bob's allergies but I always knew it was because she couldn't stand the slightest bit of dirt. If Claire can make egg plant taste that good she is some kind of a cook!!!! I hope she enjoyed her visit with her Grandmother in Boise. You sound so happy Bob when I talk to you on the phone and I'm so glad - we're a little disappointed you didn't get accepted in this first draft but I know that if that is what you really want you'll get in when the time is right. When Daddy comes home I'm sure he'll go to the Med. School and talk to them to see if they have any suggestions to improve any deficiency you may have told. We have heard of many people who get in later on if someone drops out so don't worry about it. I also think it will be so wonderful for you to be together at BYU for another your while Claire finishes up her degree but I'm sure you'll take classes too. David came over yesterday and said he was disappointed but to tell you to "hand in there". Mr. Woods called last night and wanted to know if there was anything he might do - I had given Dorothy the idea that I thought they didn't consider you a legal resident of Art. - but I read the letter to him and he didn't think it inferred that ( I had a copy made of the letter so Daddy could read it.) Anyway, you have a lot of people pulling for you.

Jeannie and Rick - thank you too for your sweet visit to Brigham City. I'm so excited your new job Rick - I'm anxious to hear more about it - it will be such a relief to have a fall time job instead of a part time one - and yet to throw something at them but I have found that it is true. I'm so happy that your health is better Jeannie - please keep it that way. I can hardly wait to get that letter you said you had written!!!!

Annie & Ron - I have loved our visits over the phone too. Dianne and Garry Power have to give a talk on Temple Marriage I had told them about the program you two put on in your ward - they were going to write you to see if you had a tape of the airplane on crash you might be able to send them - I didn't encourage them in any way so if it is too big a job just say so. Dianne came over Friday and rolled my hair for a permanent and she told me she hadn't written to you yet - so I'm sure you were wondering what I meant when I mentioned it to you on the bottom of my letter several weeks ago.

Roy - I hope you will can tonight - it has been too long since we have heard from you - Johnny keeps wanting to call you and I won't let him because I never feel like you'll be there. I had such a long good visit with Ellen Prothro yesterday - she called to see if we would help Garth Martin in his bid for the school board. She says she is feeling pretty good - that would surely take a lot of courage!!!! She told me that Lisa's engagement picture would be in the Democrat today - I'll try to get a copy so I can send it to you although I'll bet Jill will. They are going to be married June 3rd in their church and she said Jill and Lisa want you to be in the wedding - that will be so nice. I suggested that it would be so much fun if Jill could go out to Utah with us for Bob and Claire's wedding - even though you wouldn't be able to go to the weeding you would be there for the reception - did I put my foot in my mouth???? She told me there was a group of your friend who might go see you the week of March 5th - Fayetteville's Spring Break. That would be so much fun - for them and you too.

I'm sure you have all heard from Daddy - we have had two cards from Madrid and two letters from Egypt. He is really having a wonderful trip but it has been a long, long three weeks and Johnny and I will be happy to have him home. He has never liked to write letters and I'm sure to feel like he has to write as many letters as he had has been hard. His plane gets in Wednesday night about 10 p.m. Everything has gone along fine while he's been gone - home and church wise. Yesterday I went to drive the Toyota and the directional signals and the windshield wipers wouldn't work - I panicked!!!! I went to get Johnny and just immediately he went to the little fuse box and pulled out the blown out one and went in the other car and got a new one and replaced it and we were on our way - I didn't have the faintest idea where the fuse box was!!!! He has been so much help and is so thoughtful!!!!

I believe I will bring Aunt Marvel home in March - I'll have Daddy check his calendar and see when the best time to come is and then I'll let you know. I have toyed with this idea for a long, long time and feel that it's something I just have to do. I also feel that the people in Lehi will feel better about Bob and Claire living in her home if I bring her back and she talks about it with them - I have asked her about it and she's all for it. I would like to get her home in livable condition too - when a home isn't lived in for three years it really goes downhill. Bob - would have any spare time in March where : you could maybe paint the living room - it really needs it!!! Write and tell me what you think. Maybe you would rather do that after you finish school in April - Whatever you want to do. I really need to go through her things and get them put in boxes and it would be best for her to be there - even though she isn't really competent, I feel that we owe that to her. Bob - could you meet us at the airport? I just plan to keep her in bed until someone comes who can help lift her in the wheelchair occasionally - I have talked to all the nurses at the rest home and they say it won't be all that hard. I hoped you will all be able to come spend as much time with her as possible - I may ask you to go grocery shopping for me before we get there so there would be food on hand - I could send you money - any volunteers?

Johnny and I went to the Mission home for dinner on Valentine's night - Press. And Sister Richards were so sweet to us and she had the most delicious dinner. We ate in the beautiful dining room and Johnny felt so special. After the dinner, Johnny went to Skate at & Wheels for a special valentine party. They say that Mark is really enjoying his mission and loves England - I hope he goes to see Claire's folks. We'll really miss the Richards when they leaves in June - I'm wondering what the new ones will be like.

I taught the Mother Education class in Relief Society on Wednesday and it was on "The Handicapped" - I wish the Brown University Alumni Magazine had come just one day earlier. It was devoted to the handicapped and had some excellent articles in it that would have been so good for my lesson - in fact, I believe I'll include them in next month's lesson. I didn't have the Mexican Cooking class because the weather was too bad.

We surely do love each one of you and hope everything is going great. Please let us know if you need anything.
